14 july 2010 - It is reported that TATA Power is developing a 3 MW, Photo Voltaic based, grid connected Solar plant at Mulshi, in the Western Ghats which will be the largest grid connected solar plant in Maharashtra ( source: http://www.steelguru.com ) TATA Power aims to commission this first and largest solar photovoltaic power plant in Maharashtra located at Mulshi by end of 2010. The 12 acre Mulshi site offers the advantage of ownership, manageability, and ease of power evacuation. The Company had set up its first solar power plant of 100 kW way back in 1996 at Walwan in Lonavla.TATA Power also plans to install solar capacity in Gujarat towards meet its target of having 20-25% of total capacity from zero carbon power by 2017. The Company has taken the initiative to set its own goals to contribute to a greener and more sustainable future. The Company’s strategy emphasizes the development of clean energy generation from renewable sources to balance the carbon intensity from major coal based capacity and to contribute towards energy security of the country. In the wake of the announcement of the National Solar Mission by the Government of India and policy incentives therein, TATA Power’s ambition for solar power generation has been bolstered to 300 MW of capacity by 2013. Mr Banmali Agrawala executive director strategy and development of TATA Power said that “We are very happy to announce that our 3 MW solar power is progressing well and will be commissioned later this year.” |
